Laughter Yoga originated in India in 1995 and was founded by Doctor Madan Kataria. Today it is taught in over 5000 clubs in 100 countries worldwide.
Laughter Yoga is best practiced in a group either online or in person. Laughter exercises are interspersed with deep breathing exercises (pranayama) which in turn promote childlike playfulness, and this playfulness quickly turns into real and contagious laughter.
Laughter Yoga is classified as physical exercise, this is because it increases the oxygen levels in your body and brain which in turn makes you feel energised. Similar to other forms of exercise, Laughter Yoga promotes the release of "endorphins” which are scientifically proven to improve your mood. Sustained periods of "belly” laughter (approx. 10/15 mins per day) is enough to receive the full benefits of laughter.
Amazingly, Science has proven that your body can not differentiate between simulated and real laughter. This means that you can profit from all the positive benefits of laughter in one great Laughter session!
Did you know!? "Children laugh on average 300 times a day while an adult averages 15 times per day. "
Laughter is free, available, universal and transcends language or cultures.
Joy of Mindfulness’ Laughter yoga sessions are led by a qualified Laughter Yoga Teacher as a group activity. Whether joining us virtually or in person it is important that you have space to move around and be active. Comfortable clothing & a bottle of water are a must as sessions range from half an hour to one hour. It is also recommended not to eat beforehand.
Open Mind - You can laugh even if you are not in a good mood. The theory is motion creates emotion, in other words whatever happens to the mind happens to the body.
Just bring us your willing body and we will make you laugh - You can laugh even if you are not Happy. If fact, sometimes that is the best time for laughter yoga! Happiness is a conditional response however joyfulness is unconditional commitment to be happy in the moment by doing activities which cultivate joy like laughing, dancing or singing.
Be prepared to revisit your inner child. Cultivating childlike playfulness - Robert Holden in his book Laughter-The best medicine says: Anyone who grows with the inner child will find, health, harmony and happiness.
Be ready to LAUGH! You can train your mind and body to laugh. It is like riding a bike which uses muscle memory; once you learn it, you never forget.
